Remembering Srebrenica in Tweets

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica – the worst atrocity on European soil since world war two. More than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were systematically massacred, and thousands of women, children and elderly people were forcibly deported. Let us not forget the systematic rape of thousands of women. ‘Breaking the Silence’ is the theme that has been adopted to address the remembrance of the massacre, in hope that remembering and talking about the Bosnian genocide, will prevent history from repeating itself, and tactics like rape being used amidst war.

I hope we can remember the victims, the families of those who suffered, and the survivors. I hope we can spare some time to honour them as they deserve to be.
