by in Culture & Lifestyle on 25th July, 2018

Some of the most beautiful parks we have seen have been in our backyard, however,  we wanted to cast our eyes beyond our hometown of London, and appreciate pretty parks from around the globe. So here is our little short list, of beautiful parks from across the world to appreciate, if this one falls in your hometown, go outside, breathe in and take in all that luscious green. By definition, “a park is an area of natural, semi-natural or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats.”

Some Facts

  • the world’s first public park on record was in Boston Common (Boston, Massachusetts, USA), set aside in 1634. Peel Park, Salford, England opened on August 22, 1846 (arguably the second oldest on record)
  • A bill creating the first national park, Yellowstone, was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1872, followed by Mackinac National Park in 1875.
  • Parks are actually part of the urban infrastructure: they encourage physical activity,  families, and communities to socialize and spend time together. They are also a place of simple respite. Research also suggests that people who exercise outdoors gain greater mental health benefits in greener spaces.

The largest waterfall in Kanagawa Prefecture is distinctive for being separated into two steps (upper 15m/49ft, lower 25m/82ft). Its name, Hiryu Falls, comes from the waterfall's shape, which resembles a dragon soaring into the sky. The falls create a lot of water spray, making it a perfect cool down spot for summer in Hakone. .
