1) Harvey Weinstein to face life imprisonment

What happened?

New York Country district attorney Cyrus Vance has announced that “Weinstein faces three new charges including an additional count of the Criminal Sexual act in the first Degree from an incident in 2006.” The assault was deemed as ‘predatory sexual assault.’ “This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward”.

Reporter Mary Ann Georgantopulous said, “The Manhattan DA decided on this move including two counts of predatory sexual assault, a felony, which carries a minimum sentence of 10 years and a max of life.”

2) Thai football team found alive

A football team of 12 11-16-year-olds, went missing with their coach, were found in Thailand after being stuck in a flooded cave for 9 days. It was reported that Chang Rai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn said that their Thai Navy SEALS “found the group alive after nine days of searching”. Rescuers initially hoped the group had found some shelter on a ledge nicknamed Pattaya Beach to move away from the rising water, they were found 400 metres away from this, alive, and in a safer position. 3) A notorious Gangster has escaped from federal prison in Paris

Who is he?

Redoine Faid, 46 is a notorious gangster who was arrested after a failed robbery that killed a policeman, he was  in the midst of serving a 25-year sentence.

What happened?

Faid escaped from a prison in Paris via helicopter, with two heavily armed gunmen carrying rifles. The two men who reportedly wore balaclavas used smoke bombs and ankle grinders. As reported by the BBC a third had broken into the visitor’s room where Faid was talking to his brother. The third man was also able to guard the helicopter in the courtyard, and its pilot as a flying instructor whom the men took hostage.  Read more here.

4) Astronomers have captured images of a newborn planet

First images of a newborn planet have emerged as astronomers discovered the images through an incredibly strong telescope. The planet is found around a “young dwarf star 370 light years away”. According to scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany, who snapped the spectacular picture of a planet forming around the star PDS 70 from the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile.”

The images show a newborn planet forming around a dwarf star. The planet appears as a bright point beside a black filter that is covering the star. According to Sky News, the planet is orbiting the central star at a distance of 3 billion kilometres.
