1) Syria’s White Helmets evacuated by Israel

What happened?

Syria’s white Helmets have been evacuated by Israel from a war zone in south-west Syria. 422 of the volunteers were deployed via the Israeli occupied Golan Heights in Jordan, the evacuation was said to be called and assisted by a few nations, one being the UK. Which, “hailed the operation and will assist with resettlement.” Israel stated the operation came about by acting on a request made by the US, and UK.

2)  Theresa May urging to “get on with Brexit”

What happened?

The prime minister has urged for the Brexit deal to take priority as she works to sell their plans for the deal in Europe. Our PM is reported to meet with the Austrian chancellor and Czech and Estonian prime ministers this week. Both the EU and UK are said to want a deal in order by October. “Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab said a deal could be done if both showed “energy, ambition and pragmatism”. Read more here.

3) Deadly Shooting in Toronto

What happened?

A gunman has opened fire in the Greek- Town district on Danforth and Logan avenues killing one woman and leaving 13 injured. One passer-by critically injured is an 8-year-old girl. The gunman targeted two cafes and restaurants, motivations behind the attack are still largely unknown. A witness stated,  “a white man wearing a dark cap and dark clothing and carrying a shoulder bag can be seen stopping on a pavement and pulling out a handgun before firing shots,”- BBC.

4)  French President Macron fires staff for violence

Emmanuel Macron has ordered his staff to be monitored closely, since a disturbing video surfaced online, of his top bodyguard Alexandre Benalla,  dragging away a woman and beating up a man at a protest in Paris. The guard has been charged with group violence, and ‘illegally wearing a police badge’ and was fired on Friday following the leak. Macron has stated the incident was, “unacceptable” and promised there would be “no impunity.” Watch the video here.
