*TRIGGER WARNING this article relays content of a disturbing nature, viewers are advised to take caution when reading.
A disturbing image that has made the rounds on social media recently, revealed just how deeply seeded Islamophobia and hate crimes can go. When an unassuming Muslim family stumbled upon a letter shoved under their door recently, to which chillingly read: “Punish A Muslim day.”
“Punish A Muslim Day” letters are being sent to families in East London. The letter details a point system for each action & a reward. For example pulling a Muslim women’s hijab is 25 points, throwing acid is 50 points and burning or bombing a mosque is a whole 1,000 points. pic.twitter.com/6kmCrDrXt0

A campaign designed to prepare members of the public to carry out a list of horrific acts against visible Muslims for points on April 3rd 2018, the letter is described by counter-terrorism police as ‘hate crimes’ against Muslims. The anti-hate-crime group Tell Mama, which documents Islamophobia in all its forms, reported that they were receiving a high number of complaints of a similar nature all across the country. This weekend people in Bradford, Leicester, London, Cardiff, and Sheffield reported receiving the threatening letters. As a result of this, a number of Twitter users created a counter document to propagate a more hopeful narrative of love and support for Muslims. Twitter also came back with a response letter and #loveamuslim day hashtag where people are encouraged to buy a Muslim a coffee amongst other acts of kindness.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:
“Three supplications are accepted, there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of his father against his son.”

'Punish a Muslim Day' – we continue to receive reports of letters received from across the country. Now into double figures. Please report them into us at Tell MAMA or to 101. We are working with police forces on this malicious campaign. pic.twitter.com/4bph2RVBcv

So for some individuals April 3rd will be a day where they score points by punishing Muslims. Imagine leaving your home everyday knowing your a target because of the way you look. We feel the stares, we don't care.. but remember this, we're just as afraid as you are.. pic.twitter.com/9SLxhffp2V

We should make April 3rd the ‘Day of Humanity’ or “Day of the fearless” or something. There’s time to get loads of people behind something positive on this day. Happy to lend a hand illustrating something if it would help.

This is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I'm so sorry you've had to read this and you are being treated like this. I wouldn't wish some of that on my worst enemy let alone innocent people peacefully practising their faith. So sad 🙁

We (99.99999999999%) of the world have your back. Stay strong. We’re so sorry & so embarrassed that things like this take place in the world.

This absolutely sickens me to my stomach. Every religion & race has their extremists. Every single person on Earth is unique irrespective of race, religion, culture etc and deserves to be treated with the same level of respect and love. We are united on this #PressforProgress

That ‘Punish A Muslim’ letter is actually disgusting, imagine actually hating a religion, a race that much. Wow.

As if I’ve actually just seen this?? We do not punish Muslims for a few psychopaths. We do not blame Islam because of those extreme beliefs of a rare individual. Terrorism is not Islamic. And whoever made this just proved it themselves snm. What a cruel world we live in pic.twitter.com/ngtY0oC2dh

As lovely as #LoveAMuslimDay might be it shouldnt detract from the fact that there has, I feel, been a hate crime committed. It encourages bombing, acid attacks, torture and violence . It incites religious hatred. What is being done about it? @metpoliceuk @WestYorksPolice ? pic.twitter.com/FLKQY5Hjgh
