I must confess – I was once a sceptic – I always thought LUSH was a bit of a gimmick. Three years ago I started to become concerned about my beauty care regime. Clean beauty was hitting headlines, so after some research, I decided to turn to LUSH for more ‘natural’ products.

The smell of a LUSH store can be overpowering and the choice in store can be overwhelming for some. But over the years (and after lots of trials) I’ve found some of my go-to products. So, in no particular order, here are my top five:

1. ‘New’ Shampoo Bar

After using branded synthetic shampoo over the years and always having problems with hair fallout and brittle hair I haven’t looked back. I love LUSH’s solid shampoo bar range. They act a bit like soap but for the hair. I massage mine directly onto my wet scalp- they lather pretty well! I find that they last longer than liquid shampoo, up to a month for me.

After trying a few, the ‘New’ bar was my favourite. LUSH claims its blend of peppermint, clove, and cinnamon promote scalp blood flow and help with hair growth. After using it for three years, I get no hair loss during my wash and found it has strengthened and thickened my hair. These changes were noticeable after only a few days of use- I love the clean feeling it gives me! But does it help with hair growth? I haven’t noticed a difference to my original growth rate, but I’m okay with that. I must admit, I’m not a fan of the smell. The clove is too strong. But the good news? It does not linger in the hair. It’s important to note that the shampoo bars are not sodium lauryl sulphate free. So, stock up – this product is a best seller and occasionally sells out!

2. American Cream Hair Conditioner

LUSH claims the American Cream Conditioner is its most conditioning, moisturising and anti-static product they have to offer from their conditioner line. But you may want to stay clear if you have fine hair or require volume.

I love teaming this conditioner with my ‘New’ shampoo bar. This product is DIVINE. It smells of strawberry milkshake and is quite thick – a little goes a long way. I only use it towards the end of my hair (so I can keep my volume). It leaves my hair feeling smooth, soft, silky and shiny. The smell lingers in my hair for the rest of the day. I notice the difference when I haven’t used it.

3. Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask

Suffer from blemish prone skin? Then you need this beautiful mask. I cannot live without it. It dries out breakouts, literally stopping them in their tracks and prevents them. I’m almost scared to stop using it. It calms and soothes the skin. As this is a fresh face mask they require refrigeration – a total pain when travelling. You get instant results after washing this off. The face appears brighter, less oily and almost powdered (a white residue from the calamine powder – which some may not like). The consistency of the mask is thick with little blueberry pieces and very cooling. It also hardens quickly and smells lovely. Over the years I have tried their other fresh face masks, but I always return to this one. It may be slightly drying for some, mainly when there are no active blemishes.

4. The Comforter – Bubble Bath Bar

It can be so difficult to find the time to have a long relaxing bath. But after a long and tiresome string of night shifts or a big exam, I buy this and have a long soak. The Comforter has a strong blackcurrant scent which I love. It’s not like a bath bomb which fizzes, rather it dissolves and turns your bath water bubbly and pink. It’s very softening on the skin and the cypress oil is very relaxing. The scent lingers on the skin for a few hours which is great before a special occasion! Only a quarter of one bar is needed for one bath so you can get around four uses out of it – very comforting indeed.

5. Charity Pot Hand & Body Lotion

I once walked into LUSH and asked: what’s the most nourishing moisturiser you have? This was the response I received. I pretty much dislike all the moisturisers I have bought from Boots over the years. I never find they are enough and often leave this uncomfortable sticky feeling on my skin. The Charity Pot is very thick but glides and melts into your skin leaving it silky smooth, soft and well-nourished. It has a lovely creamy sweet relaxing smell and is therefore brilliant before bed. It also gives a lovely glow to the skin once used and lasts for well over 24 hours. The funds go towards a charitable organisation which makes the product that more satisfying!

I love experimenting with LUSH products and love the fact that you can get samples of products before purchasing them. I can assure you that once you find your matches you will never look back!
