A long and tumultuous history of conflict in Sudan creates a morbid backdrop for an uprising that sees death tolls rising above 40.

Major political upheavals, such as the splitting of Sudan into two separate countries as recent as 2011, is only one such example of the complicated political, social and economic climate that’s befallen the people of Sudan in recent years.

President Omar al-Bashir, who has ruled in Sudan for almost 30 years, is now facing widespread backlash in Sudan and supporters across the world, who have condemned a hostile and impoverished political situation for Sudanese people that has trickled down into the social fabric of the country, disrupting the costs of even basic food stuffs, such as bread.

Sudan’s most recent uprising was sparked by the rising living costs, but have gained momentum due a backlog of tensions that have made life extremely difficult for people living in Sudan.
