We were raised in a home which reminded us not to waste food, my father always points to the random grain of rice that finds it’s way off the plate to remind us not to waste it. Mum would usher away leftovers into the fridge and just recently I was looking after a friends kids and her daughter turned to her siblings and said “Make sure you eat all the rice, you don’t know where the barakah is.” which reminded me what a blessing it is to have food choices. Along with avoiding waste, I think the way you look after your food is equally as important, so how you essentially store it and where. More than ever I have been reminded that food is a blessing and have been a lot more conscious about how I look after it, cook it and eat it.
Storing food in glass containers to wrapping some in paper is a start, others may need freezing or a dash of vinegar to keep them going! Have a look on Pinterest, I’ve made a start below! I also spoke about this on a recent podcast.
