The relationship between fashion and politics is probably closer than people think. Especially when it comes to Muslim Women, think burkini ban, hijab ban, niqab ban and of course Muslim ban!

We saw the likes of Uber, AirBnb Google get involved.

We’ve seen Nordstrom speak out against Ivanka Trump, which allegedly increased perfume sales.  More recently Illamasque spoke out too with this pledge on their website:

New York Fashion Week was no exception. Here’s the brands that made more than a fashion statement.

  1. Prabal Gurung released a range of t-shirts with different captions including, ‘Girls just want to have fundamental rights’, ‘This is what a feminist looks like’ and the popular phrase that is currently making rounds on social media, ‘Nevertheless, she persisted’.

2. Nasty Gal – When Trump called Hillary a nasty woman Nasty Gal released t shirts with the caption nasty woman.

4. Calvin Klein had their models walk to “This is Not America.”

5. Christian Siriano included a black t-shirt with the writing ‘people are people’.

6. Many designers and models sported the “Planned parenthood” badge

7. We also saw our Girl Crush Anniesa Hasibun grace the runway. This time however, it wasn’t just the hijabs again that were making headlines. Hasibuan debuted her collection with models who were first or second generation immigrants, an extra significant move after Trump’s controversial “Muslim Ban”.

We’re loving the moves these brands are taking to bring about unity and fight bigotry!
