Amaliah have curated a list of some great freelancing tips for anyone who wants help managing their workload. Whether you’re working remotely, freelancing for a living, or freelancing on the side, we guarantee something in this list will help!

Tip Number One: Prepare your workload in advance.

The idea of freelancing is that you’re able to operate your service around your own personal schedule and curate your own specific workload. It’s an ideal case for many, but it’s easy to fall into the trap of not preparing yourself enough for what the freelancing world has to offer. Very often, what that looks like is not having enough work lined up when the time comes.

This will appeal to those whose freelancing provides them their only source of income – prepare your workload in advance! It may be more beneficial to saturate your work schedule with as many opportunities as possible rather than scheduling in the bare minimum, as you can encounter all sorts of problems in the freelancing world that may effect your financial flow and cause you unnecessary stress. Examples of this are having clients pay you much later than promised, or falling through on an assignment. There’s all sorts of things that can come up, so schedule in incremental sessions to review your work schedule and stay on top of everything that’s going on.

Tip Number Two: Schedule work, schedule care.

Off of the back of that – don’t take on too much! If you’re a worker bee, stacking up exciting and challenging work opportunities that reflect your interests sometimes doesn’t feel like a job. However, it’s easy to forget that you have other parts of your life to attend to.

Practicing self care is really important, especially if you’re working remotely, as you’re often carrying your work with you wherever you go. Make sure you set aside time for yourself every day to wind down, and give yourself some good, quality time off during the week to think about and take care of everything else but work 🙂

Tip Number Three: Communicate if you’re struggling.

If you’re struggling to find work, a really good thing to do is to communicate this to your immediate friends and family. It doesn’t have to be a ‘doom and gloom’ conversation about your closed doors, instead, talk about all the things you’re really interested in, and excited to do. Word of mouth goes a long way, and who knows what opportunities may come through the grape vine!

Don’t shy away from the fact that you’re struggling, communicate. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Tip Number Four: Practice makes perfect!

Finding time to refine your skills and explore different avenues of work is something that can really easily be welded into your freelance working routine. If you have the opportunity to work remotely, a lot of your travel time frees up, making it possible for you to organise enough time for activities that will propel you forward, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student in your field.

Practice makes perfect, and if you’re struggling to perform to a standard you’re content with, don’t fear, time and persistence will always pay off!

Tip Number Five: Prepare to pray.

Prepare your work set up in advance. Planning your day around your prayer and prayer spaces will undoubtedly put Barakah into your time. Preparation is the key to everything!
